June 4, 2026 - Lunch at Cambridge with Chuck,
Blackwater Swamp

On this June 4th, the 84th anniversary of the U.S. Navy's great victory over Japan at the Battle of Midway, I'm winging my way down to Cambridge.  Chuck is flying down in his Comanche and we're going to have breakfast or lunch.

Here, I'm approaching the Kent Narrows.
   
I've never noticed this really nice golf community just north of St. Michaels.

The last time we visited Carol's Kitchen at Cambridge Airport it was a Monday and we found out Carol's was closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.  But today was Thursday.  Imagine our surprise when the airport manager told us Carol's Kitchen was closed all this week for their annual vacation!  But then he added they had a courtesy car.  Well, OK then.
   
First we drove down to B&B Sport Aviation to talk with Chuck's friend from his RANS ultralight days.

We drove the courtesy car to nearby Cindy's Kitchen where we had lunch.
   
This locals-hangout had a lot of character.  We loved it.
   

After a delicious lunch, Chuck headed back to the Skypark, while I headed south to one of my favorite places to fly:  the Blackwater Marsh.

I've never been able to determine the name of this little river that flows south to the Blackwater Marsh area.

I knew there was a private grass strip on the Kent Island south end but have never been able to find it.  Today I finally found it.  It's called Kent Fort Manor.

Recently, the State approved plans to knock down the 73-year-old Chesapeake Bay Bridge and replace it with one that has close to twice as many lanes.   Projected cost:  $15 or so billion.  Construction would not likely start before 2032!

Looking down at Tiki Lee's Dock Bar, across the Back River from Essex Skypark.  I had heard that it had gone out of business.  It certainly doesn't look like it is open.
   
But at home I found out from "The Internet" that Tiki Lees was only closed for the season.  It is open Thursday through Sunday.  A cold brew on the sand can be had.
